Expiry
An app that helps restaurants cut food waste. Scan ingredient expiry dates with the camera, track inventory by shipment, and see which dishes are most at risk first. Built at the UPEI Hackathon.

What it is
Expiry is a kitchen-side app built to attack one specific, expensive problem: restaurants throw out food that quietly expires in the back of the walk-in. The idea was to make spoilage visible before it happens and turn it into a daily action instead of a monthly write-off.
How it works
- Scan expiry dates with the camera. Point it at a package’s printed date, confirm the ingredient, and it goes into inventory. No manual data entry.
- Track inventory by shipment. Every ingredient shows its category, where it lives (fridge, dry), and how many days until it turns, color-coded by urgency. Filter to High Risk or Expiring < 2 days.
- See which dishes are at risk. The home view lists the restaurant’s dishes with their ingredients tagged by how soon each one expires, so the kitchen knows what to cook down first.
